About the Clipboard Image Downloader

Fast, privacy-focused tool for saving screenshots and clipboard images without manual file management.

Why we built this downloader

Taking a screenshot is easy. Saving it as a file with the right name and format? that's where the friction starts. We built the Clipboard Image Downloader to eliminate that friction—paste your screenshot, choose a format, and download. No file dialogs, no temporary folders, no extra steps.

This tool is perfect for designers documenting UI iterations, developers capturing bugs, support teams creating help documentation, and anyone who takes dozens of screenshots daily. It works entirely in your browser, processes images locally, and never uploads your screenshots to any server.

The downloader supports all major image formats (PNG, JPG, WebP) with adjustable quality settings. You can paste from the clipboard, preview the image, adjust settings, and download—all in seconds.

Key features

  • One-click paste: Paste images directly from clipboard with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V
  • Format selection: Export to PNG, JPG, or WebP with quality control
  • Instant preview: See your image before downloading
  • Quality adjustment: Balance file size and visual quality with a slider
  • Offline mode: Works without internet connection once loaded
  • Privacy-first: All processing happens locally, no uploads

How it works

The downloader uses the Clipboard API to read images from your system clipboard. When you paste (Ctrl+V or Cmd+V), the browser requests permission to access clipboard data. Once granted, the image is read into memory and displayed for preview.

You can then choose your output format and quality settings. The image is converted using the Canvas API—the same technology browsers use to render graphics. This happens entirely in your browser with no server involvement.

When you click download, the converted image is saved to your default downloads folder with an automatically generated filename based on the current timestamp.

The tool includes a Service Worker for offline functionality, so once you've loaded the page, you can use it without an internet connection.

Browser compatibility

The Clipboard API has varying support across browsers and operating systems. here's what works where:

Windows & Linux

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Brave all support clipboard image reading. Use Ctrl+V to paste.

macOS

Chrome, Edge, Safari (14+), and Firefox support clipboard images. Use Cmd+V to paste.

ChromeOS

Full support in Chrome browser. No additional setup required.

Mobile

Limited clipboard support on iOS and Android. We recommend using desktop browsers for best results.

Note: Some remote desktop applications (RDP, VNC) may not transfer clipboard images properly. For best results, use the tool on your local machine.

Privacy and security

Permission required: Browsers require explicit permission to read clipboard data. You'll see a permission prompt the first time you paste. We only request access when you actively paste.

No uploads: Your screenshots never leave your device. All image processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript and Canvas APIs.

No storage: We don't store your images anywhere. Once you close the browser tab, the image is removed from memory.

No tracking: We don't track what images you paste or collect any information about your screenshots beyond standard website analytics.

Offline capable: The tool uses a Service Worker to function offline, so you can use it without an internet connection after the initial load.
